Terms of use
Last updated 2 November 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and us, Guruprasad Chandrahas Shetty and Riya Sumit Tanksali, Mumbai, India ("we"), for using Butterboo at butterboo.app. By signing in, you agree to them and to our privacy policy.
1. Who can use Butterboo
You must be 18 or older. Butterboo is made for two people in a relationship who both choose to connect their accounts. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we'll delete it.
2. Butterboo is new
Butterboo is in early testing. Some features may have bugs, change or be removed while we learn what works. If something breaks or feels wrong, tell us at hello@butterboo.app. It really helps.
3. Your account
•
You sign in with your email and a one-time code. Keep access to your email safe: anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
•
One account is for one person. Don't share it, and don't sign in as someone else.
•
Give a name your partner will recognise. Don't pretend to be someone else.
•
If you think someone else got into your account, email us straight away.
4. Pairing
•
Pairing needs both of you: one of you shares an invite code or link, and the other chooses to use it.
•
You can be paired with one partner at a time.
•
Never pair with someone's account without them knowing, for example by using their phone. If you find you're paired without agreeing to it, unpair from the Me tab and email us.
5. What you share with your partner
•
When you're paired, your partner sees what you add, as described on each screen. They can also take screenshots, which we can't control. Only share what you're comfortable with them keeping.
•
If you unpair, the dates, spending and answers you shared stay with your partner. If you're not paired, unpairing deletes what you added.
•
If you delete your account, we delete your account and what you added. Your partner keeps their own account and what they added.
6. Using Butterboo kindly
Don't use Butterboo to harass, threaten, track or control anyone. Don't add anything that:
•
belongs to someone else and you have no right to share;
•
is defamatory, obscene or pornographic, or invades someone's privacy;
•
involves a child in any sexual or harmful way;
•
breaks someone's copyright, trademark or other rights;
•
deceives people, pretends to be someone else, or spreads things you know are false;
•
threatens anyone's safety, or the unity, security or public order of India;
•
contains viruses or other harmful code;
•
breaks any Indian law.
Also don't try to: get into someone else's account or data, get around our security or limits, copy or take apart our app's code, collect data from Butterboo with bots or scripts, send spam, or overload the service.
7. Reporting a problem and staying safe
•
If your partner sends you something abusive or harmful, email hello@butterboo.app with the date, time and what happened (a screenshot helps). You can also unpair at any time.
•
When we get a report, we may look at the reported content and the account involved. We may remove content, warn, suspend or close the account, and we'll report illegal activity to the authorities where the law requires.
•
Butterboo isn't an emergency service. If you or someone else is in danger, call 112. For help with abuse at home, call the Women Helpline on 181. For mental health support, call Tele-MANAS on 14416. To report online fraud or cybercrime, call 1930 or visit cybercrime.gov.in.
8. Not therapy, and no promises about your relationship
Butterboo's questions, care ideas and reminders are friendly suggestions, not professional advice. Butterboo isn't a replacement for couples counselling, therapy or medical help. It can bring up differences between you, and we can't promise any particular result for your relationship.
9. Your content
•
What you add stays yours. You let us store it and show it to you and your partner so the app can work. We don't use it for ads.
•
We may use counts that can't identify anyone (for example, how many hugs are sent each day) to improve Butterboo.
•
We only look at your content when you ask us to fix something, when it has been reported to us, or when the law requires it.
•
When content is deleted, copies in our nightly backups disappear within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep them for longer.
10. Our app and name
The Butterboo name, logo, design and code belong to us. You can use the app for your own personal use, but not copy, sell or build on it. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely. Thank you!
11. Shared spending (Kharcha)
The spending tracker is a simple note of who paid what. It isn't financial, tax or legal advice, and we're not responsible for disagreements about money.
12. Price
Butterboo is free right now. If we add paid features, we'll tell you first, and you won't be charged without agreeing.
13. Changes to Butterboo
We may add, change or remove features, and we set limits that keep the service safe and fair (for example, how many hugs can be sent in an hour). We'll tell you in the app before an important change that affects you.
14. Responsibility
•
Butterboo is provided "as is", without promises that it will always work or be available.
•
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses, or for how your relationship turns out, and our total liability is limited to ₹1,000.
•
We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by things outside our control, such as internet outages, natural disasters or problems at our service providers.
•
If someone makes a claim against us because you broke these terms or the law, you agree to cover the reasonable costs, as far as the law allows.
•
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under Indian consumer law.
15. Ending
You can stop using Butterboo and delete your account at any time from the Me tab. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and we'll tell you why where we can.
16. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in an important way, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. If you keep using Butterboo after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.
17. Disagreements and law
If you're unhappy with us, please write to our Grievance Officer at hello@butterboo.app first, and we'll try to sort it out within 30 days. These terms follow the laws of India, and courts in Mumbai have jurisdiction.
18. The rest
•
These terms and our privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Butterboo.
•
If we set up a company to run Butterboo, we may pass these terms to it. You can't transfer your account to someone else.
•
If one part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce something straight away, we haven't given up the right to.
•
We'll contact you at the email you sign in with.
